In places with large reservoirs of natural gas, we can find natural gas leaks. When ignited, they burn for long period of time; until the reservoir runs dry. We call them "Eternal Flames", and they can be found in places such as Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Iraq. Some of them have been objects of worship and wonder, and others origins of myths and legends.
By observing the way the color pigments flowed within a air bubble, I was able to explore ways to visually represent the unpredictability of gas leak. It was a process of discovering and surprise, making little attempt to control the form, but rather letting the liquid to take on its natural path.
After the water had evaporated, the paper became textured. I used the reverse side of the paper, and created sketches, following the contours of the paper's texture.
